Hi my name is Rachael. I have been a full time stay at home mum to two energetic and lovable boys. Recently I have returned to work and am learning to balance my work and personal life.
I have struggled with mental health issues since adolescence and have an in-depth personal awareness of the impact mental health challenges can have on the family unit as a whole. It is through my professional and personal experiences that my passion for providing peer support to the parenting community has developed.
I have been providing peer support to the participants of the New Beginnings Postnatal Depression Support Program in Joondalup. Multiple times per school term I have a guest speaking role about my own personal experience with Postnatal Depression and Anxiety and how I continue to live well following my recovery. Following my talk I interact with the ladies and hear about their experiences and answer questions.
I work for the Miracle Babies Foundation as a NurtureProgram Support Worker. One part of my job is to provide in-hospital support to families in the Neonatal Unit/Special Care Nursery in Hospitals. I offer support, empathy, guidance and hope for parents of sick and premature babies, having shared the experience myself. The other part to my role is to run NurtureGroup, which is a play and support group for families who have experienced the birth of a premature or sick newborn once they have been discharged from hospital.
It has been whilst working in these roles that I realise how rewarding it is to help families at such a vulnerable time. I want to use my personal lived experience to make a difference. Key to making a difference is an understanding that everyone has a different experience of life and its varying challenges.
It is my hope that I can assist families to feel less isolated, network with other parents, find resources, information and emotional support. I am here to hear what you need to live the life you want.
